# Older Versions

We strive to maintain backwards compatibility whenever possible. This ensures that old definitions can be opened with newer versions of Karamba3D. Deprecated components are marked with an "Old" banner on their icons. In some cases, very old components may turn red, with an error message prompting users to replace them with newer versions.

When using the Karamba3D scripting API, versions with the same main version number should remain compatible.

However, internalized models and models serialized using the Json or Bson components can in most cases only be written and read by the same version of Karamba3D.
